Description
The 2022 Petaluma Gap Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a new adventure for ARNS to explore. We were honored to be able to purchase a small amount of these grapes from the Keller Estates in the AVA of Petaluma Gap. This is a beautiful vineyard site yielding small amounts of Chardonnay clusters that are around 15 years old. This area is defined by its unique wind/fog conditions and their effect on the vines. It produces premium grapes that makes it one of California’s best wine regions for growing white wines. It is located 25 miles north of San Franisco and is the beautiful gateway to the Sonoma Coast. The coastal mountain range funnels cooler breezes east from the Pacific Ocean. This temperate wind causes lower yields and longer hang time, enabling flavors and fruit characteristics to fully develop.
The grapes were harvested in the cool of a foggy night at 55F and driven to the winery for processing and aging for the next two years in 100% New French Oak. These vines, we discovered, are very self-regulating hence you get a more natural balance displaying its power and elegance in the final finish. Enjoy the bright citrus and ripe pear, apple fruit merging together over the years. A refreshing acidity that makes it a perfect match for lots of culinary experiences.
