2018 Arns Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon

Description

It was October 13, 2018 an exciting day to remember as it was the first day of harvest and ARNS 26th Vintage at our ranch. This date is considered fairly late in the season when we have reviewed our harvest historic records. Early in the year we saw lots of needed rain (as we live under drought conditions) followed by a lovely, normal, spring and summer months. The unexpected lateness of warm weather while bud formation in the vines was happening was a concern and our thinking at this moment, harvest will be later than normal. Our summer heat
brought on some accelerated growth but we never considered this warmth to be a heat spike. Heat spikes are tricky as the vines slow down or stop metabolizing in extreme weather, none of which occurred. With this moderate movement of the vines, it allowed the fruit to accumulate flavors slowly developing great complexities and intense fruit flavors.

Our inspiration in the cellar is to create a wine with finesse, accentuate its minerality, acidity, structure and freshness of the grapes. This can be achieved by protecting the vibrancy and freshness of the grapes. Down the road, we have a food friendly and approachable wine that will last 20 – 25 years. The carefree spirit of the Roaring Twenties lives on in the wine.
